We have been loving nicer weather lately.
Last weekend I gave Taylor his first haircut. Well actually it was more of a trim, he had a long patch in the back that was turning into a long tail so I trimmed it up as well as a few other spots. He was pretty wiggly but it turned out cute anyway. He sure is growing up fast.
...and now for a little venting (aka-my 2 cents): Why is it that I always FREEZE when I should stand up for myself or my kids for that matter? I have read several blogs lately where moms find themselves in situations where others are so comfortable saying or doing whatever they want, even if it is none of their business or quite rude to tell you the truth! I too have been in similar situations and found myself in one of those jaw dropping, did she just do that, moments today. I was at the DI (I confess...I take the kids there quite often in search of a treasure or something cool they might love. As well as to pass some time when we need to get out of the house), anyway, while we were there the kids and I spent some time in the toy aisle. There have been a few times that I just can't find anything for the kids that is worth keeping due to broken or missing parts, and this was one of those days. So we rummaged through another section in the store to try to find McKenzie something that might make her happy, Payton had found a 50 cent toy that he was satisfied with. I found one of those Chinese fans that fold open and closed and are made of paper and sticks and handed it to her to look at for a minute-- it was only 25-50 cents and if she liked it I might have gotten it, until she was stripped of that choice by a concerned worker. My back was turned when this all happened, but I can put 2 and 2 together as best as I can, after turning around to see the older woman folding the fan back up and putting it back on the self in such a matter of fact way, and without saying a word. McKenzie then looked like she had been robbed and began to cry. I could tell that she had been offended by this, but the lady had gone back to putting other things away and I felt as if it were too late to approach her by that point, even though I desperately wanted to "Visit" with her! I scooped up McKenzie and let her look at the fan one more time, still debating if we were gonna buy this thing, and still stunned by this not so pleasant woman. We then went to another part of the store as I was being watched by this woman. As I was looking at some of the serving dishes I could tell she was trying to keep her eye on my kids to make sure they wouldn't touch ANYTHING! Does she not realize that ALL of these items have been donated, and that I was right there with them, and that they were actually behaving and being very good, and not to mention I AM their MOM!!! It was not like I had left them alone in the toy aisle like tons of others do while they continue their shopping and are no where in sight. Now that I have had some time to think, several things I wish I would have said come to mind. I am really not a confrontational person at all, but my motherly instinct makes me regret that I didn't say SOMETHING!! I wish most of all that that I would have at least said, "I am not quite sure what happened back there because I turned my back -FOR ONE SECOND- and now my little girl is crying, we were thinking of buying that, did you take it out of her hand?" Why can't I think of tactful things to say right there on the spot, but now that I am safe and sound at home my mind races with things to say, not really rude things but rather just standing up for myself and my kids. It was only 25 CENTS for heavens sake, and I would have paid for it if it just so happened to break!! Is a mom not allowed to go out and about shopping with kids in fear that others are not delighted with their presence?!
