Broken Brielle

Well on Saturday, December 1st, after getting Brielle out of her crib and while trying to get her dressed for the day, I noticed that for some reason she was doing a different crawl.  At first I couldn't tell why she was all of a sudden changing her crawl.  Sometimes when she is trying to pack toys around and crawl at the same time she will do the same thing, while her one hand is holding on to the toy.  It was like she was sitting up and then she would scoot on her bum, then used her left arm to go forward a bit more (bum scoot, arm stroke).  I began to think maybe she is just tired of crawling and this was the next best thing to walking since she hasn't mastered that on her own just yet.  She is getting pretty close and will take a few steps to nearby objects though, she is getting more brave everyday!  Anyway, I picked her up to put her clothes on her and she just started crying like she was really hurt.  I was racking my brain trying to figure out what just happened and if I even did anything to hurt her.  Then I started putting two and two together and I realized that she really had been hurt somehow and that is why she was crawling so weird right before I picked her up.  Now I really started paying more attention to her little arm and I could tell that she was trying not to put ANY weight on her wrist.  It was so sad!!  Although I must say it was really hard knowing if I should take her in, she was using that arm to grab toys, eat, and functioned normally until it came time to crawl, and she was improvising by using the "Bum/Scoot crawl" or using her elbow instead.  There were no bruises and the swelling was minor if any at all.  I could tell that if I applied a small amount of pressure to both wrists something was definitely wrong with the right one and it was pretty tender for some reason.  By Monday I decided to take her in just to make sure everything was really alright.  I felt a little silly, like it was probably nothing (she might have even been improving a bit, but she was still babying her right wrist).  For one thing we could not think of how Brielle injured herself.  I kept trying to think back for the past day or two to see if I could remember a time she may have fallen and landed wrong, or screamed from being hurt, but nothing has came to mind.  Brielle's wrists as so skinny and fragile and with her trying to be more mobile it really could have been a small fall and she just landed on it wrong, unless it happened at a sitters, who knows!

Once the doctor examined Brielle and later saw her try to crawl, the doctor decided it would be best to get an x-ray on 12/3/2012 weighing in at: 17 pounds 13 ounces (0.25%).  So down to the hospital we went...wondering if others were debating how this poor child got injured at 16.5 months old (including myself).  Brielle wasn't sure what was going on but she didn't want much to do with all these strangers, so I held her and tried to position her tiny arm just right in hopes that they would get a decent picture from the x-rays.  Well the tech came back in and told me they got good shots and also asked me if I was supposed to stick around until I talked to the doctor.  She was unable to tell me on the spot if it was in fact broken.  But in a few words and the look on her face I knew she was trying to tell me I needed to stick around and wait to hear from the doctor and that something was wrong.  I instantly felt like the worst mom EVER!  After getting back to the doctor she informed me that Brielle had a small fractured wrist.  My baby girl was injured and I didn't even know how.  The doctor put Brielle in a hard cast like sprint for 3 weeks and wants a follow-up appointment.  I guess baby's bones heal quickly so everything should mend perfectly, but I still felt bad for my sweet little girl.
Sweet little Brielle and Taylor were good little troopers as we spent most of the morning trying to figure things out at the doctor's office as well as the hospital, while keeping Mckay posted all along the way.  When Payton and McKenzie returned home from school they were so concerned about their little sister, everyone felt bad for poor little Brielle.  Needless to say...Brielle has received extra attention from all of her family members and has been soaking it up!!
She has actually been pretty tough and happy through it all, like I said it would have been hard to ever know she even broke it if she didn't have to use it to simply get around.
For the most part Brielle has been pretty good at leaving this splint on, except for on the few days that she has worn short sleeves.  On those days during nap time she has a tendency to free her arm and unwrap the whole thing.  When I go to check on her she will be sleeping away and has thrown all of the bandages out of her crib.  So long sleeves it is!  Silly girl, I am happy that she has left it alone almost 99% of the time though.
Brielle's hair is getting long enough to put it all up in Piggy Tails!  Pretty cute!
Here is her pre-dinner location.  She watches me cook dinner while enjoying a small snack along the way.  Don't worry she always saves room for real dinner!
Brielle is sure growing up fast and has been making some pretty cute little expressions lately.  She has also really taken off with the talking and says so many words and names now, to name a few: mom, dad, banana, toes, hat, ball, hungry (hunree), Payton, Taylor, Kenzie, Max (my sister's little boy's name), more, baby, shles, pretty, candy, drink, juice, hi, bye bye, pants, belly, nose, different animal names and sounds, go, coat, book, as well as many other things her siblings ask her to repeat if she is in the mood.  Brielle also loves to dance.  She is one smart little girl!
Yummy!
We all just love her so much as well as her fun little personality!
Brielle had a Well Visit check-up back on November 1st.  I forgot to add her stats at
15 1/2  months old.

Height:  28 inches  (1.79%)
Weight:   16 pounds 11.4 ounces  (0.07%)
Head:   17.91 inches  (35.87%)

I guess Brielle was the first of our kids to need an x-ray and to actually break something.  Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come with this little GIRL!

BSU Fans

Well BSU's football season is comming to an end soon.  It is part of the fall that we look forward to.  Their last game is a sad day for Mckay!  Anyway, I thought I would get a picture of the family all decked out in our gear before the season is over.
The kids on the couch with their Dad before the game on Saturday.
The kids with me getting ready for Game Time!

It is fun to live in a town where there are so many fans.  You can't go out of your home on Game day, or most days for that matter with out seeing some BLUE and ORANGE!  Go BRONCOS!

Deck the Halls!!

After arriving home from our trip to Montana, we decorated for Christmas the next day.  The kids have been pretty excited to have our Christmas Tree up once again!
Another Christmas decorating Family Night, and the kids are loving it!

Oh Taylor!
Fun kid!
Payton is such a good kid and a great helper around the house.
And this little girly has learned to cheese it for the camera!
We just love and laugh at her!
Brielle is a sweetie and a huge part of our family.
She always wants to be right in the middle of the action.
And checking out new things, I am surprised that she has not been taking off more of the decorations this year.  She touches them on occasion but mostly she will just point at the different Christmas decorations and say, "Pretty".  It is pretty cute!
The kids excited to have our Tree up and decorated.

Let the Christmas Season begin!

Now that our Halls are Decked out, we are enjoying this Christmas Season and hope to make lasting memories with the kids.  I keep having to remind myself that it is not all about the presents...We want to make our own good ol traditions and memories that the kids will remember when they are older.  I love having a family to share the joys of this time of year with!

Here is a new tradition we started with the kids this year...
Meet Christopher!  He is our Christmas Elf that Santa sent from the North Pole.  The night we decorated for Christmas he showed up on our doorstep.  He will be spying on the kids and reporting back to Santa before Christmas.  He has also been silly, sneeky, and kind as he has brought Christmas cheer for the kids.  They love him already and wonder what he is up to while they are fast asleep.  He is one of the first things they look for when they wake up, and Christopher is full of surprises!!  It has been FUN!

Thanksgiving 2012

This year Payton's 1st Grade class had a Thanksgiving Parade... "like the ones in New York"!  We spent some time as a family putting his float together and decorating it.  I think Payton loved how it turned out.  He had a little inspiration from Chick-fil-a, a couple new locations recently opened up in the Boise valley.  Instead of "Eat Mor Chikin", we rooted for this poor little Turkey and said, "Eat More Beef".  The kids thought it was pretty funny and even some of the staff members at the school would stop to take a picture of Payton's masterpeice.  Parents were invited to the Parade and a feast afterward.  It was a lot of fun and the students loved showing off their hard work.  My mom was in town that day so she surprised Payton and came to support as well.

Payton the Pilgrim, surprised to see the kids, mom, and grandma.
He had a great time and we enjoyed having a Thanksgiving feast with him afterwards.
After school was out for the week and Mckay finished work, we headed out of town the next morning, and up to Montana for a week long vacation with Grandma, Grandpa, and Oli.  It was so nice to spend time with family and relax a bit.  We all enjoyed the little break from everyday life, and we took advantage of our time together!
Dishing up Thanksgiving Dinner.  The food is always yummy, but the company is the icing on the cake.  This year it was just Grandpa, Grandma, Oliver, Maren, Wade, Lars, Kathleen, and their kids, as well as our family.
The adult tables.
Then there was the kids table!  DELICIOUS!!
The kids also spend some time playing outside in the few patches of snow that was left on the ground.  The weather was nice so the kids took advantage and sled down small hills, built a large snowman with Oli, went on rides, made snow angels, and just explored.
McKenzie getting ready to head outside.
Taylor all bundled up.
One afternoon we helped put up the outdoor Christmas lights.  Payton though it was the coolest thing and carefully climbed up the ladder to explore the roof with Mckay.  Now that he has tried it out, I think it is something he can't wait to do again!  Part of their roof wasn't very steep so Payton took advantage and explored a bit and didn't seem scared at all...I think he felt big and free up there.

Finishing up.
On our last day in Montana, we headed up to the nearby Mountains to cut a Christmas Tree and let the kids play.

Brielle has the best seat in the house.
I was there too but usually behind the camera.
The weather was pretty nice for us which is always a plus with kids.
Cute!
I love Brielle's happy little face in this one.

Time to break for a picnic in the cars.
Happy Girls.
